A Dalliance with Watercolors

Charlie has another round of prompts for May for texture in watercolors and it was a great excuse to get the watercolors out after a very dry spell. I didn’t do glossy for today’s prompt but I did stumble across a great example of glossy in portraits:

Here’s the list of prompts:

A Brush with Brusho

How magical does this sound. Crystal watercolor pigment that you sprinkle onto paper then spray with water and it brightens and spreads out. Such is the fun of working with brusho. Having watched a video about using it for backgrounds, I’m now addicted to playing with brusho on its own.

My daughter did the colorful one, it’s that easy. I love that you get perfect circles using bubblewrap. I hadn’t even thought to using bubblewrap for acrylics. That’s one to try in the future.

Here is a quick example of brusho in action:

And here’s a very intricate use of it for wings of a dragonfly to get that translucent look:

And here is the one showing how to use it for a landscape background:

So many different uses. Anyone tried brusho before?

Green Parrot for #Naturedoodlewash

This photo is a little blurry which fits with watercolor I guess.

I was going to tinker with it some more but I think I’ll just start another parrot instead.

I love close-ups so maybe I’ll just do the head next.

Here’s what it looks like on different products in my Society6 shop:

Any of the arty folks find themselves drawn to painting things in their favorite colors? I seem to be. Name a turquoise animal lol.

We’re at kids’ soccer games all day tomorrow on a really hot day. Maybe I’ll sketch while I watch.

Have a great weekend!

Chicken Salad

I can’t remember what this salad is called so I’m calling it chicken salad. Anniversary lunch and it was delish!

So I had to take a phpto and then I realised it’s still May so I doodlewashed my dinner. Head on over and see many other doodlewash dinners.

Scramble and Sheep

I hope I eat something more exciting than scrambled eggs before the end of the May #doodlewash challenge ๐Ÿ˜‰

Abstract eggs?

It really needed the picture. This just looks like a background gone wrong.

Or maybe the wool of a sheep!

Someone mentioned a website where you can use their photos and I’ve forgotten the name of it oops! I’ll edit this when I remember.

Here’s a fab reference photo of sheep. I chopped the end off so next Friday I’ll show the full photo with more sheep paintings.

I do hope I get to see sheep when I visit England in the summer. ๐Ÿ‘

What shall we name this one? Pearl?

I think this one looks like an Audrey. Yes? No?

When I’ve painted a couple more, I’ll see if I can whip up a poem for them.

I’m still in awe of doodlewashers who put so much detail into their paintings. I’ll have to watch a few videos on YouTube.

I must be at the point in a race where you hit the wall and I think it’s the finish line ๐Ÿ˜.

I’ll post a macro on Tuesday since we have a long weekend here woo hoo.

Happy creating!

One a Day: Abstract Blue

Looks a bit French to me. Ever tried an abstract? It’s fun!

One a Day Cat finished

I can’t believe the difference it makes with a watercolor brush afterwards. I’ve no idea how to do white whiskers so maybe I could add some funky background colors instead.

That’s what I could do tomorrow. We have a birthday to celebrate today ๐Ÿ˜€

Have fun!
