Bleating out of sync
But life without them on the hills
Is boring. Don’t you think?
Ever wanted to paint one in oils? Here is a video to show you how:
There’s a few tips in here I didn’t know. If you are starting out with oil painting, this is great advice:
Such is my love for oil paints, I have to break from doodlewashes for a teensy bit to knock some out.
It’s P.E. day tomorrow which means a long weekend with the kids so I’m going to slowly roll out the three or four paintings I did last night. That should tide me through.
None of them were a bit technical so I can’t really say what I did. I think my best advice is relax and have fun with it.
I always like to have an idea of colors before starting, but that’s about it. It’s fun to look back and see how far you’ve come but it’s even more fun and adventurous to realise you have a long way to go. Who wants an adventure to be over quickly. It’s fun to learn new things.
p.s. completely unrelated I bought some 5lb wrist and ankle weights today. I hope I can wear them in the pool, preferably without drowning. 😲
p.p.s Continuing the quote challenge Monday. Breaking the chain naughty me.
For day 4 of the #artchallenge I picked from my growing collection of things to paint and chose goose.
I recently went wild at Michaels in the sale and now have an abundant stack of canvases to go at. I just had to try a black one first. I even did a background!
It really does look better on a screen.
I’m not sure about the abstract foreground now. The middle part might need tweaking to make it look further away.
I used some gesso and it started cracking so this is kjust a practise piece. It would be great if I could get prints out of it though. It looks like the local printers don’t do artist prints but I found a website in Canada that does called Reproducing Art.
We seem to have a lot of diseases or pending diagnoses at the moment. Even Sandy has lyme disease 😞. My sister had knee surgery yesterday. No quadrathlons for her until next year. Lazy girl lol. It makes me feel like painting even more. You just don’t know how long you’ve got.
So that I don’t end on a sad note. Just imagine what a fun time I’m having trying to collect a urine sample from Sandy. 😧 Imagine needing it from a horse yikes! 😂
I started this sheep last night and will finish it today. I think it’s my first animal in oils. 🐑
The background is a thin layer of acrylics. I didn’t know that was okay in an oil painting until I saw it in a YouTube video.
Here is the original:
I have lots of animals to go at next on my Pinterest board. Give abstracts a rest.
I almost forgot again to tell you my exciting news. I’m going to have about ten of my small paintings on the back wall of the library for the month of January. So excited!
Anyone can do it you don’t need to be vetted. Though Elaine did tell me a funny story about a kid in circle time commenting once about a half naked lady lol. Gosh that must have been funny. I’ll just leave you with that image ha ha!
The nearest I’ve gotten to having my own style is all the swirls.
I’ll be doing some different swirls today. I bought myself a hoola hoop yesterday. Exercise is fun at last.
If you are caught dancing by yourself you feel a bit of a wally but add a hoola hoop and voila perfectly normal 😉
Have a great day![Top]
It’s so fun doing abstracts until you think you’ve ruined it. Pleased with this one. Here’s an earlier version:
Which do you like best?
Who’s tempted to get their paintbrush out today?[Top]
I’m getting ahead of myself. I even painted in the middle of the night last night (insomnia) so I’ll share two paintings today.
The above one used to be a flamingo with a tree and terrible background. I’ve lightened the body part of the flamingo so now it’s an abstract one.
Just for fun see if you can think of a story to connect the flamingo to Cinderella below.
Purple wanders through the forest picking berries.
Orange lights a fire to keep purple warm.
Violet is his daughter, swinging from a tree while
Red and yellow share the sunset.
That was fun. I’ve been brainstorming ideas to combine an interview with poetry and I might do something like this with the answers.
First up is Charlie so I’d better get thinking of questions.
Strive to live outside the box today.
Have a great day![Top]
Which way around do you prefer this painting?
I did it super fast after watching an oil painter called Nicky Henderson on YouTube.
Check this out. What a fab tool he uses. I’ve been wondering how artists paint on a big canvas.
