Oil Pastel Tardis

For a while now I’ve wanted to do more scratching through top layer. That effect is so cool. I only really thought about it for acrylic paint.

I love oil pastels at the moment. They look so bright used properly. So how cool is it to use the scratch through technique with them.

Here is a tiny bit of scratch through:

And here is a really cool scratch through sketch. (Say that three times fast)

Already I’m thinking of scratching through the sheep’s wool, a hay bale, a wagon wheel and grass.

It’s such a fun project for kids to try in the hols if they will just do it.

Happy creating!

#artchallenge 3/5 Abstract

Insommnia

20160229_094314

I did this in four stages, three of them in the night. It feels such a good use of time you can’t sleep anyway. But don’t try it on purpose lol.

I debated about leaving it dotty but then swirled it all around. It might not be finished. We’ll see.

Happy creating!

Abstract sheep in watercolors with splatters. My favorite combination.

I’m going to tag Jenna Gustafson.

Goat

image

I traced the goat onto my wooden board. I seem to prefer wood to canvas. I’ll use canvas for bigger pictures.

After reading a great book by Mari Bolte
image

I was super inspired to paint outside the box. First I tried a monkey with it’s features all over the place in an abstract manner but it didn’t look so great so I painted over it in yellow but so some of the colors showed through and now it is the background for the goat.

Since January is the month of the goat I’ll save more goats until then.

I also painted this quick abstract

I’m all out of boards again so I’ll do some sketches next.

Have a great Saturday!

Fluid Acrylics Abstract

image

I had to try out my new paint that arrived yesterday. It sure is nice to have it delivered. Early Christmas present from my mum.

On the DeSerres website I watched a video about Golden high flow acrylics. It was just what I wanted for my abstracts.
image

If you want to see some great paintings done with fluid acrylics look for them on Twitter #fluidacrylics.

Check out this amazing fluid painting. The first time he shook the circles I was like, ‘No! What have you done. So glad he kept them in the end.

I daren’t think how much all that paint cost and the amount that dripped on the floor. I have to try a mini version of this though 😀 who’s with me?

Red and Blue Abstract

image

The nearest I’ve gotten to having my own style is all the swirls.

image

I’ll be doing some different swirls today. I bought myself a hoola hoop yesterday.    Exercise is fun at last.

image

If you are caught dancing by yourself you feel a bit of a wally but add a hoola hoop and voila perfectly normal 😉

Have a great day!

Abstract

image

It’s so fun doing abstracts until you think you’ve ruined it. Pleased with this one. Here’s an earlier version:

Which do you like best?

Who’s tempted to get their paintbrush out today?

One a Day: Abstract

image

Purple wanders through the forest picking berries.

Orange lights a fire to keep purple warm.

Violet is his daughter, swinging from a tree while

Red and yellow share the sunset.

That was fun. I’ve been brainstorming ideas to combine an interview with poetry and I might do something like this with the answers.

First up is Charlie so I’d better get thinking of questions.

Strive to live outside the box today.

Have a great day!

More Abstracts

Before I take Sandy for a walk I’m going to share a new painting and one a few weeks old. From now on I’ll post whatever I create that day (probably the day after).

It didn’t seem to fit with #drawlloween so until then anything goes.

I do intend to try something new though I guess each painting is an attempt at that anyway. Outside of the box shall we say. If I can get consistent with that it would be a really fun tagline on the blog too and hopefully inspire others to think outside of the box.

I read somewhere the other day to just chuck the box away that sounds liberating too.

The above painting is for Phil’s wall at work. He’s taken it to work today to see what it looks like on the wall. So I haven’t varnished it yet.

And this one I did yesterday. It’s my favorite so far but not outside the box. Every abstract painter seems to do this.

Are you going to create something outside of the box today?

Have a great day!
