A Sheep Tale

Ewegenie stared straight ahead not wanting to alarm her little lambs

but her senses were on high alert.

Gertrude was watching her, she just knew it.

Gertrude stood still as a statue, convinced Ewegenie couldn’t see her.

Unfortunately she held her breath for too long and passed out in the pasture;

Woken later by the bleats of victory from Ewegenie.

(Where am I going with this lol) Does anyone know what happened next?

A couple of people asked about cards of this painting. They are available in my Society6 shop.

Happy creating!

p.s. I had to chop the top off the image for Society6. If I can find somewhere to scan it in I will swap the image. It’s way too big for my scanner.

Ewe News

Time for our weekly segment, Ewe News.

20161113_204848

  • “First up in Ewe News is Catherine has sold her first art print of a sheep from her Etsy shop, Drips and Sploshes to a buyer in England all whilst she was jumping in a leaf pile with her kids. Those English love their sheep.”

  • “There is a great new resource for artists by our blogging friend, Sofieshowing us how to promote your art.  I think you have to be a newsletter subscriber to get the password.”
  • “Wrapping up the news today are a few noisy sheep and goats with their bleating in a muddle. Whatever are they trying to say?

I’ll do a collage tutorial on Friday. Hopefully some supplies arrive by then. Have a great week!

Orange Sheep!

flcok-547739

Let’s start the week with some fun shall we? I heard a very interesting story about a farmer who was fed up getting his sheep stolen so he dyed them all orange. (I didn’t say it was a happy story 😛 )

Here is the scoop if you are so inclined to check it out.

If you were a sheep would you be happy with that? I’m on the shelf at the moment. It would be funky for a day or two. At least get them some shades.

After a bit of investigating it seems that orange sheep are not so rare. Scotland has some for show purposes:

But those two examples are ( I believe) from being sprayed orange. There is actually an orange breed of sheep. This short video explains where they get the color from.

They look amazing! I want to paint them.

There’s even an orange pom pom sheep craft you can do with kids.

Let me know if you ever spot an orange sheep. Take a picture!

Happy creating!

Catherine 🙂

Bobbly Sheep

4aab872f9279f75abdfc37b8bf9642ad (2)

This one has been out in the rain.

I hope one day Teresa’s  frog and squirrel and Sylvia’s cat all meet up in a post with a sheep. That would be fun!

I always preferred pigs but I seem to like drawing sheep. I have lots of connections to sheep. I’ve chased them around a paddock. I went to see a remarkable sheep show in Rotorua. All the Japanese tourists flocked around my son who was two at the time and took more pictures of him than the sheep lol.

The show was amazing! We watched super fast sheep shearing. Different breeds of sheep stood on their own podium and dogs ran on their backs. It was so clever.

This was all about 8 years ago and around that time I wrote some silly stories about the sheep in the paddock. Of course I never did anything with them, didn’t even have an  iphone then never mind a blog. Then not that long after I heard of someone who got famous from sheep cartoons. Darn!

You know there is more room in the world for the same type of thing. It depends where you live. But.. did you ever feel like you had a lot of passion for a character or a story the it got left too long and you didn’t feel energized to work on it?

Well it could be that the idea didn’t belong to you and it has moved on to someone who is on the ground running with it. I discovered this phenomenon reading Big Magic. It’s an amazing book for creative by the author of Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert.

cc018aa4640d52174502415a54144520Sorry it cut the bottom off. Anyway every creative person should read this. The only bit that scared me a little was to get a job so you don’t feel like your art should pay for itself. Though I wouldn’t say no to something flexible at home. Dog sitting lol.

If anyone has already read it do chime in. Have a great day!

Long Haired Sheep

Back to One a Day

After watching this great video by Gary Bolyer about selling your art, I have decided to get back to my daily sheep.

What a great guy Gary is doing all these videos to help artists.

Since I am doing Kat Apel’s Month of Poetry in our group on Facebook it would be nice to share a poem on a Friday here and join in with Poetry Friday.

A poetic sheep perhaps.

I can’t seamlessly combine Poetry Friday with Draw a Bird Day (today too) so this here is a hodge podge post (for a change *snort*).

and a few recent birds

Since the blog will be mostly sheep, anyone who still would like to see my paintings can see them on my Facebook page, Instagram & Twitter (@CathM_Johnson) and my Society6 shop. I’ve also got some on a page here on my blog.

Any ideas what would be a good little giveaway for those who sign up for my future newsletter? Tips for beginner artists? Sheep jokes? 😆

Thanks for reading. Happy creating!

Art in the Library

As I ponder how often to post this year and what to focus on (I’m thinking fun challenges) I’m sharing a photo of my artwork in Kingsville library. It’s going to be up there for a month like my own personal art gallery 😉

You’ve got to get excited about the little things it’s January. And a bit more excitement. I actually remembered to wear a scarf today. So many and I always forget 😁

Have a great week! I’ll post again on Friday.

Scrambled Eggs and a Penguin

image

You cannot really
beat the laser focus of
making scrambled eggs.

It occurred to me whilst making scrambled eggs this first morning of the year, that it was a great example of focusing.

The dog wanted to come in the house in the middle of me making it and I just couldn’t leave it. She let herself in but has yet to learn to shut the door behind her.

I can usually do all sorts while making poached eggs but scrambled no way.
So if anyone wants to learn how not to get distracted or do one thing at a time then try scrambling eggs.

It’s month of poetry so expect a lot of poems this month as I dust off my poetry brain.

Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas! Rather than posting all through Christmas here’s enough sheep and paintings to almost reach New Year.

I’ll whip up a couple more sheep.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas!
